When Communication and Sex Become Disconnected
Sexual difficulties and relationship communication problems are deeply interconnected. Poor sexual communication creates distance; sexual difficulties create tension that spills into everyday communication. Over time this cycle can erode intimacy, trust, and relationship satisfaction — often without either partner fully understanding why.
Many couples arrive at psychosexual therapy not because of a specific sexual dysfunction but because sex has become something that is no longer discussed, negotiated, or mutually satisfying. Avoidance, resentment, mismatched expectations, and the accumulation of unexpressed needs can all bring a couple’s sexual relationship to a standstill.
Very common: Communication difficulties around sex are among the most frequent reasons couples seek psychosexual therapy. With the right support, most couples experience meaningful improvement in both communication and sexual satisfaction.

What our clients say
Our Therapists
Our therapists are fully accredited with COSRT and have specialist training in both psychosexual therapy and systemic couples therapy approaches. They are skilled at working with the intersection of individual sexual difficulties and relationship dynamics — a specific specialism that requires training in both domains.
Working with relationship communication and sexual difficulties requires particular sensitivity to the dynamics present when two people are in the room. Our therapists are experienced at creating the safety that makes genuine honesty possible, and at navigating the complex interplay between communication patterns and sexual functioning.
Your First Session
Your first session is a warm, confidential conversation about your experience — what you have been noticing, how long it has been affecting you, and what you hope to achieve. There is no pressure and no predetermined agenda. Your therapist will listen carefully and develop a personalised treatment plan collaboratively with you.
Between Sessions
Psychosexual therapy involves work between sessions as well as within them. Your therapist will discuss any tasks, exercises, or reflections that may support your progress. These are always agreed collaboratively and tailored entirely to your situation and pace.
No GP Referral Needed

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can one partner attend without the other?
Yes. Many individuals attend to work on their own communication patterns and what they bring to the relationship. Partner involvement is encouraged where possible but is never required.
2. Is this couples therapy or psychosexual therapy?
It is both. Our therapists integrate psychosexual therapy and relationship therapy as a single approach, addressing sexual communication difficulties in their full relational context.
3. What if my partner refuses to attend?
Individual psychosexual therapy can still produce meaningful change. Understanding your own patterns and developing new communication skills can shift relationship dynamics even when only one partner attends.
4. How many sessions will we need?
Most couples see meaningful improvement within 8-16 sessions. Your therapist will review progress regularly and adapt the approach.
No referral needed: You can contact us directly without a GP referral or existing diagnosis. We respond to all enquiries within one working day, Monday to Friday.
